As part of an ongoing partnership with USC, GenSpace welcomed spring 2024 interns from the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and the Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy (OT).

The spring interns brought fresh perspectives and offered innovative ideas about healthy living, longevity, and nutrition, while showing members how to enhance their daily life through occupational therapy consultations.

Natalie Felikian – Leonard Davis School of Gerontology

Natalie brought her passion for health span, longevity, and lifestyle habits to GenSpace. Her entrepreneurial spirit allowed her to make significant contributions to our initiatives, applying her knowledge in practical settings to positively shape our community’s approach to aging and wellness.

Arev Hagopian – Master of Science in Lifespan, Nutrition, and Dietetics

Arev helped lead the Eat to Thrive workshop. She provided a scientific explanation of foods’ role in overall health paired with practical advice and interactive tools to help members develop and maintain a healthy diet.

Jaida Cruz, Rachel Weldin, and Lena Li USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy

Jaida, Rachel, and Lena integrated holistic approaches to well-being into GenSpace programming and explored how to redefine life and purpose for older adults. The interns offered personalized consultations for members who may be in need of help adjusting habits, movements, or the tools they use in their daily lives.

GenSpace’s Gerontology and Integration Associate, Belinda Kang led the spring intern program and encouraged students to immerse themselves in the GenSpace community.

“Having been a gerontology student myself, I understand the value of connecting with the members. The internship allows students to bring their classroom knowledge into program development to collaborate with community partners and support older adults.” said Kang. “My goal as I oversee this program is to help students gain the most holistic experience possible.”

Our partnership with USC reinforces GenSpace’s commitment to intergenerational connection, which has mutual benefits for the younger  and the  older. Graduate interns bring their educational experience and energy to support members, while members expose students to their wisdom and lived experience.

Research shows there is great benefit to intergenerational connections and through this exposure, GenSpace fosters a more welcoming environment for all.
