Wallis Annenberg GenSpace and its mission to reimagine aging were in the spotlight when CBS Sunday Morning visited our innovative center for older adults. Reporter Allison Aubrey spoke with GenSpace Founder Wallis Annenberg about her vision to bring connection and community to older adults in Los Angeles.
Wallis Annenberg GenSpace co-hosted a powerful panel with Drew University exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping education and fostering intergenerational connection. The panel, titled Wisdom Meets Innovation: How AI Will Transform Education and Connect Generations included leaders in education and social impact.
The USC Chan Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy partnered with GenSpace to support members through physical exercises and modifications. Over the summer, interns Alena Cardwell, Adriana De Paz, and Lena Li completed a 12-week placement, enhancing members’ quality of life and highlighting occupational therapy’s benefits for older adults.
GenSpace is proud to partner with the Getty to bring the iconic museum’s art to older adults. This collaboration included a six-week immersive series inspired by the 20th century artist and sculptor, Camille Claudel, whose exhibition was featured at the Getty.
At GenSpace, we connect future leaders with older adults to foster mutual learning and reshape perceptions of aging. Through our partnership with the USC Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, students gain hands-on experience in our community. Recently, a graduate intern led a two-part workshop on nutrition, teaching members about the link between diet and longevity while offering practical tips for healthier living.
In partnership with USC, GenSpace welcomed interns from the Leonard Davis School of Gerontology and the Chan Division of Occupational Science and Therapy. These interns brought fresh perspectives on healthy living, longevity, and daily wellness through occupational therapy and nutrition workshops.
Studies show that as of July 2022, food insecurity in Los Angeles County affected a quarter of the population – a 10% increase from the prior year. And while the United States Department of Agriculture defines food insecurity as “a lack of consistent access to sufficient food,” the reality is much more complex.
GenSpace was happy to celebrate its members and volunteers last month with a bingo and magic Night! Members and staff wore their favorite costumes and were treated to a couple of rounds of bingo, a magic show and other activities, in this special celebration.
